Black Shoes a Broke Boy Confession

I always bought black shoes or sneakers because they were practical—they didn't easily show dirt, crease, or age. Since I couldn't afford to keep buying new pairs, I needed shoes that could handle anything: gym sessions, dates, work, and school without getting roasted. Finding the perfect pair was a serious mission; I'd spend hours in stores, making sure they fit every requirement. For a long time, all-black Converse were my reliable go-to.
When I was in college my friends knew I had three pairs of shoes. My flip flops (a Dominican Staple that I wore all year round), a black pair of shoes (for the fancy events), and my all-black Converse ( I put MILEAGE in those).
When I created my budget and realized I had some money to spend, I splurged on my first pair of white shoes. It felt like a milestone—a sign that I had a bit of "fun" money to spare. It was liberating, a departure from the practical black shoes that had been my staple for so long. Progress can be measured in the simplest things.
